This saves you the time and hassle of figuring out all the api's, when all you really want is a quick and simple way to add custom data to a variety of locations. Putting the data where you need it is our goal.

Not sure what all this is about? What is a widget anyway?
A widget is quite simply a program that loads content from a different location and brings it to where you currently are, this is typically done on a portal. The perfect example is netvibes.com. We refer to widgets as the many modules that make up the netvibes home page. Similar services are available on google.com.
Basically widgets are mini applications which take data from various systems and consolidate it into a single place.
If it still isn't clear think of it this way. Widgets are little programs that take data from one location and present it in another. The primary purpose of this is to eliminate the need to go to that other location. You go to your portal page all the time, perhaps every time the browser opens. This portal page pulls data from all over the place and brings it to a single spot. Widgets are the little programs that go get the data.
